We had stumbled upon a great Gelatoria located next to the Pantheon in Rome. At the time we had not heard of Gelato, and were drawn to the appealing display of the beautiful colors of this creamy treat. It was our turn to order and the choice was difficult as there were so many tantalizing flavors, therefore we opted for two different cones so we could both taste different Gelatos. We were hooked. The perfect combination of chocolate, nuts, and fruits.
Glenn had mentioned at the time that this dessert should be offered in the United States, but we assumed it was already here so we put it in the back of our minds for years. In June 2004, we traveled to Boston and while shopping at Quincy Market near the waterfront when we came face to face with 'Joey's Gelatoria' inside the market. We were thrilled to be able to have our Italian treat again and were so impressed by the flavor and authenticity. It was at that moment we vowed to be in the Gelato business, and we have not looked back. We now hand produce and serve our own authentic Gelato and Sorbetto at two locations in Philadelphia, PA and attend many outdoor events. We continue to grow and expand as we see other Gelato businesses appear throughout the years.
We met in the fall of 1999, and by January 2000 we were headed to Rome, Italy for what would be a trip that would alter our lives completely. We traveled to Florence during this trip and fell in love with Italian culture. As with many visitors to this wonderful country, one of the most unforgettable treats we had was Gelato.
